What Do We Do? |
EducateWe educate ourselves by having meaningful and respectful discussions about women's issues, how the patriarchy affects society, and other current events in the form of a Socratic Seminar.
Spread AwarenessOne of Feminist Club's main goals is to spread awareness and understanding of different societal issues regarding women's rights and equality in general.
EmpowerIn Feminist Club, we create a positive and safe environment where we can celebrate our differences and use our talents to make our community more inclusive and equal for all.
What Activities Have We Done in the Past? |
International Women's Day
Each year for International Women's Day, we pass out lollipops with facts about feminism attached to them in the main lobby of the school.
Club lunches (2020-21)During distance learning, we wanted a way to interact with our members more. Every month we would have a virtual club lunch where we'd talk about our day and socialize with each other from a distance!
Women's March
Every year, the Feminist Club attempts to attend the Women's March in Washington, D.C. It's an event that the club looks forward to every year! (If weather permits and it is safe to do so)
Monthly Instagram Campaigns (2020-21)During distance learning, as well as our regular club meetings, we would have monthly instagram campaigns. During each month, we would showcase notable people or issues according to the month. For example, Hispanic Heritage month for September and January for human trafficking awareness month.
Fundraising
The Feminist Club holds various fundraisers throught the year. We collect funds through t-shirt sales, PNO's, selling baked goods, restaurant nights, and more!
#iweigh Campaign (2018-19)Actress Jameela Jamil created the #iweigh movement on instagram that promotes and celebrates body positivity. She created this movement in hopes of people recognizing their self-worth beyond their physical weight and appearance. During the 2018-19 school year, Feminist Club brought the movement to the Broad Run community by asking various clubs around the school what they "weighed."
